Peaks Island’s original bicycle rental. Family owned and operated for over 30 years. Started in 1992 using recycled bicycles, we're a full service bike rental and repair shop.

To find us coming off the ferry, head straight up the hill and turn left on Island Avenue at Down Front Ice Cream. Walk along Island Ave. for 3-4 minutes, passing Hannigan's Island Market, The Cockeyed Gull, and the gas pumps, and you will see our shop ahead on the right side of the street.

We provide standard bikes for rent & we have some E-bikes too. We can accommodate families with children’s bikes, infant carriers & trailers.

Helmets and a map are included with your rental as well as some suggestions how to make the most of your island visit.

In our shop we offer, for sale, bicycle accessories such as baskets & racks, replacement saddles, helmets and shop logo T-shirts.

We also carry a modest line of fishing tackle and supplies.

Reservations can be made for 9:45 or 10:45 am.

In the shoulder season (April, May, October, and into November) we offer honor system/self-service rental from Monday through Friday. We do not rent e-bikes during self-service rental times. We are open on the weekends for repairs during this time.

At least one member of your party must be 18 or older in order for the waiver to be signed.

Drop your form with payment into the provided box
Feel free to take a map and a helmet

*Card payments will be processed on the following Saturday with a 4% transition fee. There is an ATM at Hannigan’s Island Market, back towards the ferry on the right side.

*If you don’t answer unknown phone calls, could you also include your email in case there is an issue with processing the card.

Directions around Peaks Island:

The island loop is about 4 miles around and can be circumnavigated in under an hour, at a casual pace.

Leaving the shop clockwise (to the right), the road will naturally bend. Take a left at the school and a right at the tennis courts. This will get you around the island.

There is a scenic overlook on the north end which can be visited by riding past the tennis courts. You will have to double back to the courts to make the island loop.

Halfway around Peaks is a trailhead labeled Battery Steele. Park your bike (no locks needed) and venture into a WWII military bunker with a 100m tunnel through the middle. It’s dark and spooky but okay to walk through.

On your way back to the front of the island, look for a large yellow building marked The 5th Maine Regiment. This is a Civil War museum and also has one of the most scenic front porches on the island. It’s worth a stop.

Repairs

Bringing your own bike to the island and need some help getting it working. We perform bike repairs on most bikes and e-bikes. Our repair services include tire/tubes, brakes, shifters, chains, cassette, as well as other repairs. Please reach out via phone or email and we can figure out if we are able to perform the necessary repairs for your bike.

Calm, sandy, shallow. Good for kids. The water gets warmest here.

An abandoned World War 2 Army gun emplacement. Spooky. Floods when it rains.

A rocky Maine shore with sea glass, tide pools, and great views.

A nice spot to eat lunch while on your bike ride.
Portland Sky Line

Check out a breath taking view of the Portland skyline.
Whitehead Pass

Perfect spot for a coffee on the benches, great views of Ram Island Ledge Light and Cushing Island.
Cairn Beach

Island visitors often build “cairns” or precarious stacks of rocks using sea-smoothed stones.
